Setting Your New Year’s Resolution

Happy New Year my buzz family! New year means new goals and a refreshed mindset to work towards your New Year’s Resolution. Looking back at 2017, I have had both joyful and sorrowful moments. I have accomplished so much last year and for that, I feel proud. Below, I have brainstormed 5 tips to make 2018 the best year yet.

Make short and long term goals.

Most people’s initial reaction to New Year’s Resolutions is to make a ton of futuristic goals like “I want to travel more often” “I want to lose 40lbs before 2019” “I want to help more people” etc. Sound familiar? That was me at one point as well and the more I made these plans, the more it did not work out. My solution is to make weekly/monthly goals. Instead of “I want to lose 40lbs,” how about rephrasing it like so “Starting today, I want to start counting my calories.” Breaking down your goals into shorter more achievable segments will get you to succeed, I promise

Make sure you can physically see your New Year goals.

I recommend writing down your goals on a wall calendar, journal, or you can even type it out onto your computer or phone. Bullet Journaling is a great way for creative individuals to write out their goals as well as to have fun at the same time. I have my personal bullet journal that I started last year, so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
You are not required to write out daily goals since it may become too repetitive. Weekly goals are also a good way to go. Whatever your plan is for 2018, go ahead and set it at a place where you can see it so you are constant reminding yourself to work hard.

Avoid burnout!

Many individuals start the year off great! I mean they would go to the gym for 2 hours a day 6 days a week, eat extremely healthy, etc. Do not overdo it! You will burn out easily, trust me. I’d say take it slowly, one day at a time. Today, I sat on my bed, still being the lazy me watching Netflix. One thing I have decided to change today is to drink a delicious and healthy Acai drink. Do one thing differently every day, and it will add up.

It’s not a race!

This tip goes hand in hand with the one above. It is not about who gets to the finale first, it is about the process. Also, do not compare yourself to others. In this generation, we tend to focus so much on social media and popular influencers. When we look at photos of an influencer living an ideal life, we tend to look down on ourselves. It is not a race. Slow and steady always wins. Let’s work hard on our goals together, slow and steadily.

During sad moments, you can depend on your loved ones for support. Share your goals with others. Certain experts say that happiness comes more often to those who socialize and care for others.
